The GRB is represented by a yellow star, with the four absorption systems that trace strikingly different phases of gas coloured according to their apparent redshift in the absorption spectrum. The 5 kpc offset comes from the size of the foreground galaxy in the image along with the uncertainty on the GRB position. The additional component seen in the imaging data (Fig. 12), here shown between the two galaxies, does not intersect the line of sight and could be located at any horizontal position in this diagram.
