The lack of ICPN velocites in the M 87 halo range of velocities 1100 km s⁻¹ < V_LOS < 2000 km s⁻¹ is related to the lack of information in this range to statistically assign PNs to the ICL component (see Sect. 2.3.2). A K–S test in the velocity range V_LOS ≤ 1100 km s⁻¹ returns a probability of 97% that the ICPN LOSVD is drawn from the same distribution as that of the Virgo galaxies.
