Stellar mass-weighted gas-phase metallicity versus redshift, Z(z). At every epoch, we adopted a Gaussian distribution of log(Z/Z), centered at the mean metallicity and with dispersion σ = 0.5 dex. We note that the new metallicity for the star forming gas is noticeably higher than the mean cosmic metallicity adopted in the past (see Sect. 2.6).
