Global escape fraction for different sources with the same colour scheme as in Fig. 14, defined as the total escaped luminosity of a population divided by its intrinsic luminosity. The luminosity-weighted average escape fraction is very close to that of stellar populations at z ≳ 4, highlighting that they largely dominate the photon budget.
