Table 1

Estimate of the Bayesian log-evidence (log Z), the ESS, and the sampling efficiency (ε) on the benchmark spectrum (with and without noise) for the different methods.

(a) Without noise

Method log Z ESS ε
FMPE-IS 401.843 ± 0.002 199 761.8 19.1%
NPE-IS 401.832 ± 0.003 121 856.5 11.6%
MultiNest 407.182 ± 0.080 30 540
nautilus 401.844 ± 0.010 10 004.4 3.1%

(b) With noise

Method log Z ESS ε

FMPE-IS 198.798 ± 0.003 111 010.8 10.6%
NPE-IS 198.792 ± 0.004 52 724.3 5.0%
MultiNest 203.235 ± 0.083 32 311
nautilus 198.737 ± 0.010 10 002.9 3.2%

Notes. MultiNest does not return a value for ε. Therefore, we simply report the default number of equal-weighted posterior samples as its ESS. The evidence here is the one without IS; with IS, the log Z estimates are slightly closer to the other methods.
