Cloud patchiness is thought be the primary driver of near IR variability. Here we show that changes in the silicate cloud patchiness of only a few percent have large impacts on the spectrum, with larger changes at short wavelengths. This is again clearly distinct from the spectral changes due to the thermal structure or composition.
