The top panel presents the total velocity field, and the second (bottom) panel presents the compressive (solenoidal) component obtained via the Hodge-Helmholtz decomposition. The slices are extracted from the 12 × 12 × 20 Mpc box used for the decomposition; the maps are thus 12 × 12 Mpc large, and each pixel is 22.5 kpc large. The slices presented are similar to those in Figs. 4 and 5, that is at Δx_cen = { − 8, −6, −4, −2, 0, 2, 4, 6} Mpc.
