Distribution of Balmer break ratios and rest-frame Hα EWs of our 14 dormant galaxies, highlighted against the distribution of the total galaxy sample. We find a strong correlation between the two quantities in the entire galaxy population at 5 < z < 7.4, which is a key result for our understanding of burstiness. The dormant galaxies selected in this work lie on the edge of this distribution (shadowed in gray), with the strongest Balmer breaks and the weakest EWs.
