Slices of density (left column) and mean charge (right column) of the whole simulation box at the time of explosion. The top row shows slices in the plane of rotation of the binary system, the bottom row shows slices perpendicular to it. There are clear outflows to large distances from the binary system even before the explosion. These outflows contain some heavier metals at various distances as a result of explosive helium burning on the surface of the primary white dwarf during the inspiral.
