Example of our template fitting procedure for the absorption troughs in J1426+3151. Si IV (right panel) and S IV (left panel) troughs detected in the DESI spectrum are shown with the dashed black histograms. We performed a Gaussian fit to the Si IV 1403 trough and used its template to fit the others, while allowing for the maximum optical depth to vary. The best-fit models for all four troughs are shown with the solid lines and are accompanied by their resulting best-fit parameter.
