Changes in the rate of tidal friction ( $Δ {LOD}_{s}^{☾}$ $\Delta \mathrm{LOD}_\mathrm{s}^{{\leftmoon}}$ ) and the associated variations in the (a) Earth-Moon distance ( $Δ a_{\oplus}^{☾}$ $\Delta a_{\oplus}^{{\leftmoon}}$ ) and (b) tidal dissipation (ΔΨ), computed based on variations in stratification and sea level rise in the range 1900 to 2100 using Eqs. (A.5) and (A.6). Note that for the range 2019–2100, two climatic scenarios are used, namely RCP2.6 and RCP8.5. The boxes in both panels show the recent acceleration due to the increased greenhouse gas emissions.
