Evolution of the magnetic field square along the current sheet’s perpendicular axis. The figure shows the initial collapse of the current sheet, which is associated with the ejection of a plasmoid. We then observe a stable period with slow accumulation of magnetic flux, during which two secondary plasmoids are also ejected, resulting in drops in the integrated field strength.
