The big elliptical galaxy close to the center of the image is NGC 1399; the second brightest galaxy in the image about 13′ south-southeast is NGC 1404. Other prominent member galaxies are labeled in white. NGC 1316, the central galaxy of the Fornax A group, is further to the southwest, outside the field shown here.
