Evolution of the average misalignment angle θJ between the stellar and dark matter angular momenta as a function of total mass. The angle θJ ranges from 0 to 180°, and for two random directions, the average value is ⟨θJ⟩= 90°. Therefore the grey dotted line now indicates an average angle of 90°, corresponding to random orientation, and smaller angles indicate a tendency toward alignment. The upper panel shows the evolution of the alignments of BGGs that are classified as red at z = 0, i.e (g − r)z = 0 > 0.6, while the lower panel shows the evolution of blue BGGs i.e (g − r)z = 0 < 0.6.
