All phase plots show a three-phase structure of the ISM, with a hot low-density phase and a colder phase extending to higher densities, and the beginning of a cold phase at densities ρ > 10⁻²⁴ g cm⁻³. Some mass is also stored in hot higher density gas, probably because of heating by stellar feedback.
