UVJ diagram of the colors measured within the F444W effective radius, with hexbins containing at least five galaxies color-coded with the median global A_V. The length and direction of the arrows indicate the median color shift from within the effective radius to the aperture between 1 R_e and 2 R_e, following our definition of a color gradient throughout this paper. A minimum of ten galaxies in the hexbin was required for drawing an arrow. The green diamonds highlight the U − V and V − J colors within 1 R_e for the submillimeter-selected sample.
