The dashed red line at Mp = 16 MJ represents the threshold that separates planets from brown dwarfs as discussed in Spiegel et al. (2011). We end up with brown dwarfs because some planets undergo collisional merge, and the resulting total planet mass is greater than 16 MJ. We note that some points are overlapping with each other, especially the ones relative to population D.
