Comparison of the irradiation source term sampled at the τ = 1 surface for two different profiles for the initial optical depth τ_ν,0. The blue line shows the profile used in this work while the orange line shows the profile used in Melon Fuksman & Klahr (2022). We see that they match very well outside 1 au but differ inward. While Melon Fuksman & Klahr (2022) use a radially decreasing, smooth profile, we see that our prescription can create little nonuniformities in heating that might affect the innermost bump.
