Correlations between energy bands for Mrk 421 (top) and Mrk 501 (bottom), where r is the Pearson correlation coefficient. There are strong correlations within the optical and UV bands. If considering the entire period there are no correlations between the optical/UV and X-ray bands, but some do appear when the X-rays are divided into hard and soft states.
